DST is always searching for ways to improve. This includes growing the DST team. DST offers semester-long internships and apprenticeships for qualified candidates, and we love to promote from within. If you are interested in joining the DST team and furthering your career, contact us today.
WHAT IS DST?
DST is a sports performance group who specializes in individualized training with athletes of all levels in every sport.
WHAT TYPES OF INTERNSHIPS DOES DST OFFER?
DST offers several types of internships. We divide our internships into 3 categories:
1. Performance Coaching: Description
2. Business Operations: Description
3. Media/Creative: Description
Each category of our internship has several avenues for learning and career development that is uniquely tailored to the individual intern. That’s right. We individualize more than just our training!
IS THE INTERNSHIP PAID? IF NOT, WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO GAIN FROM AN INTERNSHIP AT DST?
DST’s internship is unpaid. Having said that, we do understand there is value in the work being done. In exchange for that value, you will receive mentoring, educational opportunities, DST gear, a place to workout for free, real world experience in a setting within your field of study and access to networks that can assist you in the long run.
HOW LONG IS AN INTERNSHIP?
We typically have 5 time periods that we use to structure our internships- 3 of which align with school semesters. Dates may vary based on individual needs and institutional schedules. General dates for 2021-2022 internships are:
Fall Internship: (August 4th – December 17th)
Spring Internship: (January 12th – May 28th)
Summer Internship: (June 2nd – July 30th)
NFL Combine/Pro Day Prep: (December 15th – March 31st)
MLB/MiLB Off-season: (September 1st – March 11th)
WHAT IS THE DAY-TO-DAY ROLE OF AN INTERN?
The typical day looks different for each of our interns. During your internship, you can be assured that your typical day will always involve shadowing, assisting and learning from our expert staff within your realm of the internship while working on ‘passion projects’ and other unique opportunities.
WHAT KINDS OF ATHLETES WILL I BE WORKING WITH?
This depends entirely on the location and individual schedule within your internship, and that will be discussed and determined within the interview process. Having said that, if you have a population that you would want to be involved with, let us know!
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT TO LEARN?
Much of the learning will come from real experience while being tutored by one or several of our expert staff members. You will also have access to our staff’s professional development sessions, DST’s online and internal resources as well as a guided learning project that we call a ‘passion project’.
IS THERE AN EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AT THE END OF MY INTERNSHIP?
We often say that we like our interns to treat the process as an extended job interview. While we nearly exclusively hire former interns, a successful internship is in no way a guarantee of future employment.
If an opportunity within DST does not arise following a successful internship, we will assist you in searching for placement opportunities in the forms of resume polishing, sending your resume to our professional network, letters of recommendation and professional references.
DO I HAVE TO BE A COLLEGE STUDENT? DO I RECEIVE COLLEGE CREDIT BY PARTICIPATING IN THE INTERNSHIP AT DST?
DST’s internship does qualify for college credit, and those enrolled for an internship through their college can gain those credits with us.
However, we DO accept high school applicants, college applicants and those not currently tied to any form of educational institution.
WHERE WILL MY INTERNSHIP BE? ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR REMOTE INTERNSHIPS?
The location of your internship is determined by a combination of convenience, access, desired area of development and need. We have locations all around Houston, TX as well as a location in San Antonio, TX and in Glendale, AZ.
Viability of a remote internship depends entirely on the area. Performance Coaching? We cannot offer internships, but there are many educational opportunities that you can find by following our social accounts:
